I am a Mama Bear to my little girl cub. I am constantly in awe at the unabashed, unapologetic beauty, innocence, joy and pure love that she embodies (don't worry, it's not all love & light, she knows how to embrace her fierce energy too! Equally inspiring!). I remind myself regularly that we were all once like this, that under all our lived experience, under all the pain and conditioning, it is our true nature to be relaxed, kind, open-hearted and joyful.
I really believe each one of us deserves to learn how to alchemise our pain into beautiful wellbeing and wisdom. Imagine the world we could build from that space....
I come from a blended-family with all the richness and complexity this connection of human beings embodies. And my family has its own threads of generational pain and trauma, joy and resilience running through it. These experiences have undoubtedly shaped my mental and emotional health, indeed all aspects of my wellbeing. It isn't always pretty, at times it has been downright painful. But the challenges of my life have also brought me to a deep understanding of hope, strength, resilience, humour and the ability we all have to adapt, and to heal, particularly when we receive the right support where we feel deeply seen and heard.
While I was raised Catholic, I am not a practicing Catholic. However I do have a rich spiritual life, and feel deeply aligned with the nature-based spirituality of my Celtic ancestors.
My spiritual path and the teachings of systemic therapy have been fundamental to how I have, and how I continue, to heal my own pain and find joy, meaning, connection, purpose, love, forgiveness, and of course wellbeing.
Like everyone, I go through periods when I am better able to balance each aspect of my mind-body-spirit wellness and of course there are periods when I struggle to pay enough attention to each part of my wellbeing. As a recovering perfectionist, I understand all too well the swing between doing it all "perfectly" or slumping into inaction and procrastination while all the time trying to maintain a sense of control, the struggle is real! But, the power and possibility to learn, grow and develop is also absolutely real!
My star sign is Cancer, does that even mean anything? Who knows :-) I do know I love my home, I feel things very deeply, and I adore being in water or near water!
Some things that bring me joy, comfort and nourishment include: spending time in nature, sea swimming, the moon, creating vision boards, essential oils, cooking plant-based food, travelling and learning about other cultures, and binge watching my favourite shows (hello psychological thrillers and anything to do with cults!). I prefer early mornings over late nights, and I'll dance to anything that has a beat!
I love a good quote (I’ll probably get it wrong), I'm always ready with a metaphor and I’m that person who takes all the photos – because we’re making memories – if you know, you know!
Last but by no means least, perspectives of life that are important to me include inclusive, intersectional feminism and anti-racism.
